for the Russian dressing
1 tablespoon mayonnaise
1 teaspoon ketchup
1/2 teaspoon horseradish
1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
other ingredients
salt and pepper to taste good quality Sauerkraut, look for your local German or Polish food store
2 slices dark rye
butter
2 – 3 slices Gruyere cheese
100g corned beef, in either a single or multiple slices
Russian dressing (see below) or at the restaurant we sometimes serve it with a good seeded mustard mayo dressing
method
Butter the bread. Place the cheese on one slice of bread followed by the corned beef and the second slice of bread. Sauté the sandwich in a pan until the bread is golden brown and the cheese has melted and keep it in a warm place.
Warm the sauerkraut, open the sandwich, add the sauerkraut and the Russian dressing.
