Paracombe Wines Reds

5 Star Rating James Halliday Wine Companion 2009
Paul and Kathy Drogemuller established Paracombe following the devastating Ash Wednesday in 1983. It has become a very successful business, producing a range of wines from the 15–ha vineyard which are never less than good, often very good. The wines are made on–site in the winery with every part of the production process through to the distribution handled from the winery.

—This makes Paracombe amongst the few small Australian brands at the moment that I would attribute to being viable while there are dozens which are in real difficulty. And the last positive is position, position, position. The Adelaide Hills as a regional site is one of the better ones in the country.

Paracombe Wines Pinot Gris 2008
This is a gorgeous little gris with notes of honeysuckle and sweet pear to begin then a crunchy fresh palate, juicy pear and spicy acidity to refresh, with a minerally texture to finish.
92 Points Tony Love, The Advertiser, June 2008
Pinot Gris is an unlikely inclusion in the Hot 100 but that’s because they’re rarely of this stellar quality. Terrific ripe zesty stone fruit aromas, some jasmine too. Textural and flavoursome palate, plenty of bright acidity to carry the richness; balanced and right in the zone.
Nick Stock, The Adelaide Review Hot 100, 2008, The Advertiser Top 100 93 points
Quite an exotic take on the gris theme, plenty of guava and sweet fragrant aromas, really intense and fresh. The palate has instant weight and richness, striking density and texture, ripe apple and guava flavours, smoothly balanced and fresh.
Nick Stock, The Penguin Good Australian Wine Guide 2009, 92 points
Gold to blush tones in the glass, attractive floral and white fruit aromas with some cinnamon spice to start, this wine is a spritely, crisp apple spritzer creature with flavour twists of locquat fruit for interest that fall in with honeysuckle aromatics. It’s all about zip and, with summer on the way, a classy party drink if ever there was one.
The Advertiser Top 100, 93 points
Terrific stone fruit, jasmine and concentrated ripe flavours, there’s a lot on show here and plenty of zesty Adelaide Hills acidity to back it up. Texture is also a highlight, with mouthfeel that oozes understated presence. Fret value to boot!
